Program Description

The Waterville Parks and Recreation Department is offering a youth softball program for girls up to age 12 (must be in Grade K or higher).  Players will compete against teams from surrounding communities.  This year we will feature three “leagues” of play.  Girls will be placed on teams based on age, grade, prior experience, and/or number of participants in each level.  Age is determined by the age of the child on 1/1/19.

We are asking that interested individuals register as soon as possible so that we can determine teams and coaches early.  This will allow time for practices to begin prior to games starting.

Games are scheduled to begin the first week of May (weather permitting).  We will accept registrations through May 1st.   Please complete a registration form and return it with full payment to the Parks and Recreation Department, 6 Wentworth Court, Waterville, ME 04901, as soon as possible.  For more information, please call 680-4744.

FEE:   Waterville Residents or current Waterville students – TBD per player.

Non-residents or non-Waterville students – TBD per player.

Instructional League – U8 (Girls 8 & under – must be in Grade K or higher)

This league will focus on the players learning to develop the proper skills to play the game of softball.  Coaches will pitch to players.  Score will not be kept at games as this is strictly a learning environment.

Minor League – U10 (Girls 10 & under) Players in this division should have prior playing experience.

This league will focus on having the girls develop in a real game situation.  Girls will be able to pitch.  Games will be officiated by umpires whenever possible.

Major League – U12 (Girls 12 and under)

This league will be based on the same rules as junior high school softball utilizing the 10th fielder.  Girls will be allowed to pitch with full windmill techniques.  Games will be officiated by umpires.

We are still working with the Waterville varsity team to coordinate a skills clinic.  Information on the clinic will be posted on our website and Facebook page as soon as possible.

We are looking for volunteer coaches.  Without you, we cannot make this league successful.  We need volunteers for each league.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Waterville Parks & Recreation at 680-4744.
