The summer Freedom League is divided into Frosh, JV and Varsity brackets. Games start on June 17, most of which are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Games end approximately July 26. We anticipate playing approximately 12 games, weather permitting. The League provides two USA Softball certified umpires per game. Practices will be 1-2 times per week after school and/or recreational league softball seasons have ended. Fee is $320 for all spring and summer tournament entry fees, summer league fees, insurance, umpires, field maintenance and supplies, USA Softball registration fees, BOE field usage fees, softball equipment, t-shirts, and other expenses. Opposing summer league teams are primarily located in Hunterdon, Morris, Warren, Somerset and Sussex Counties. Home games and practices will be held at Tewksbury's Old Turnpike School's "Lower" Softball Field, 171 Old Turnpike Road, (Califon for GPS purposes) and/or Voorhees High School's Varsity Field, 256 Rt 513, Glen Gardner.
[Jul 01 2020] 2021 COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
The STARS program has promulgated safety protocols in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic. All legal guardians must execute a Waiver and COVID Questionnaire. N.J. Department of Health guidelines and USA Softball requires that these documents be delivered and executed at every practice and game we hold. No participant who fails to produce this questionnaire will be allowed to participate in the game. The State of New Jersey and USA Softball has extracted the consent of the softball community to sign these forms and follow their safety protocols in exchange for their blessing to play softball this summer during the downside of the pandemic.
The health and safety of every girl on the STARS will always be our number one priority. Period. Not to mention keeping grandma, grandpa, and every family member watching the game or practice as safe as we can. Coaches will have a non-touch forehead thermometer at each practice and game for checking player temperatures. We will also have hand sanitizer, masks, and disinfectant wipes available at all practices and games. Players and spectators alike will maintain social distancing. No sharing of gloves, softball masks, helmets, batting gloves, water bottles, or other equipment shall be permitted. Umpires will be expected to stand a safe distance behind the catcher to call balls and strikes. There will be no personal contact with the opposing team for congratulatory gestures after each game. Each team during games will use their own game balls, which will be sanitized between innings. Players, parents, and coaches will exercise sound discretion to ensure the health and safety of all concerned while enjoying team camaraderie and competition that softball uniquely offers.
Thank everyone in advance for your cooperation.
